Microsoft has announced a plan to expand gaming on Windows XP OS platforms. The Windows XP Game Advisor, a tool to help any person find games for Windows that meet a specific genre and ESRB rating. The Game Advisor tool also determines which games will run on a gamers own PC. In addition to allowing consumers to filter through games by genre and age group, the Windows XP Game Advisor provides unbiased system checks that will aid consumers in understanding which games will perform best on their computers, before they go to the store. The Advisor even has the option to print or e-mail a shopping list of just the right games.
Windows XP Extras is another feature that will be included along side the Game Advisor. Microsoft has teamed with top publishers, including Buena Vista Interactive, Valve, Square Enix and Microsoft Game Studios to offer such extras, a monthly series of exclusive game content and add-ons. The first set of Windows XP Extras includes three new levels of TRON 2.0 which incorporate two new multiplayer combat modes. Also in the first Windows XP Extras offerings, gamers will be able to customize their Windows Media Player with the official Half-Life 2 skin from acclaimed developer Valve. Other Windows XP Extras include a Final Fantasy XI Windows XP desktop theme.
Many big name companies have stated their support for Microsoft's Windows XP and it's gaming stability. Among the big list of names are people such as Gabe Newell of Valve and John Smedley of Sony Online Entertainment.
