Recently, the box price and monthly fee were announced for The Matrix Online. The game itself will cost $49.99, and it will carry a monthly fee of $14.99. The subscription is the same as such recent MMORPGs as Everquest II and World of Warcraft. The Matrix Online is releasing January 18, 2005.
The Matrix Online has seen its fortunes change greatly since it was first announced in 2002. In 2003, the two sequel movies and one licensed videogame, Matrix Reloaded, Matrix Revolutions and Enter the Matrix respectively, did not universally live up to expectations. Earlier this year, Ubisoft withdrew its commitment to publish The Matrix Online, leaving Warner Bros. to go it alone until Sega announced plans to co-publish the game. Warner Bros. recently solidified its relationship with Monolith, developers of The Matrix Online, by purchasing them in August.
