Viewtiful Joe, Capcom's Manga-style fighting adventure, has emerged as one of the strongest contenders in the inaugural BAFTA Games Awards.
The game – hailed by the technology press as one of the most original titles of recent years has picked up a total of three nominations for next February's awards ceremony: 'Best Design', 'Best Intro/Animation' and 'Best Game Cube Game'.
Viewtiful Joe was released on October 24th, and has already received a host of accolades from the technology press. The game hails from the brilliant mind of Hideki Kamiya, director of ground-breaking titles Devil May Cry and Resident Evil 2 and sees Joe – an ordinary kid with love on his mind – thrust into an alternate cinematic world in which he must become the most powerful, stylish, and damned coolest superhero the world has ever seen.
The game's unique style obviously was a visual hit with the judges – with the game also short-listed as the best on its format.
"We're immensely proud to have been nominated for three BAFTA Games Awards," says Ben Le Rougetel, senior PR manager, Capcom Entertainment Europe. "Ever since it was announced, Viewtiful Joe has stood out as a quality title, offering something completely different from the me-too games so often forced on the public. We're grateful to BAFTA and its panel of judges for considering Viewtiful Joe as examples of the best in design and animation. It's good to have our opinions – and those of the public – validated by such an esteemed group of individuals."
