The FreeX group, an assortment of pro-Linux hackers and programmers, found an exploit through an Electronic Arts' Bond game save that allows for the use of unsigned code on the Xbox. They contacted MS through ZDNet Australia and gave the Redmond company a deadline to release a legitimate Linux loader for the Xbox. The time has come and gone, and MS didn't respond to their request/demand. Well, FreeX certainly wasn't bluffing - the Xbox exploit has been released to the public and is spreading around the net with speed. Needless to say, Microsoft isn't happy about this at all, and has threatened legal action against the group. Exactly how Microsoft plans to make a case against the group isn't exactly clear - the exploit is a purely software encoded modification, with absolutely no hardware modifications to make at all.
