The Xbox 2 - or Xenon - as it is reportedly code-named, has been unveiled a little further this week with the leak of what is rumoured to be specifications of the new system. Tittle-tattle has it that the leaked report was created by Pete Isensee of the Xbox Advanced Technology Group, and whilst many areas of the specification remain unconfirmed, a number of developer's have already been anonymously quoted as saying the facts tally with what Microsoft have already been telling them.
The core of the system will comprise (in current thinking) of three 3.5ghz Power PC G5 CPU's (combined), a 500mhz ATI graphics card with 10mb of on-board framebuffer and finally 256mb of main shared RAM. Nothing too mind blowing, though developer's will no doubt have already been alerted to the vagaries of working with multiple CPU's; something of a dark art to master if the 'Xenon' is to be pushed to its technical limits.
A 100mb network port and USB2 connectivity are also mooted, as well as some crazy shenanigans related to advanced 'shader' functions which I don't really understand. Four controllers will also be supported, though the hard disc debacle is still not put to bed by the report which merely implies that no firm decision has been made either way.
