Nintendo have refuted suggestions that the final name for their forthcoming twin-screened handheld the DS will be the Nintendo Nitro. Ever since the machine was first announced back in January, it has been understood that the DS moniker was simply a temporary working title. Reports today stated that the 'proper' name for the device would be Nitro, on the strength of comments from one Martijn van der Meulen, the online product manager of Electronic Arts Netherlands, who said: "Nintendo has had a [software development support group] website for several years, for the people who develop games for their systems. On this website, and on the part where I don't need to log in for, the name Nitro is being communicated. The Nitro? I can't say too much about it (NDAs) but I'm sure it's pretty obvious now for some people." But, according to Nintendo themselves, it turns out that Project Nitro is simply an old working title used internally at the company during the early planning stages of the device - before they settled on the current DS name - and that the machine's official name is still to be confirmed. Rememember when everybody thought Gamecube would be called Dolphin?
